7 Do's and Don'ts for Photography Prints

Make the Most of Your Home and Office Space

Professional photography instantly adds an element of sophistication to a room, not to mention something to look at when you and your guests sit for extended periods in the same spot. A well-done photo arrangement can bring an entire room together with an air of skilled interior design. Here are seven tips for creating the perfect photo displays in your home and office.

1. Use specialized hooks to hang your photos

Do yourself a long-term favor and secure your photos to the wall properly. It’s tempting to knock a nail into the wall and be done with it, but photo hooks will give you safer and more reliable service for a longer time. They’re cheap and quite strong. Depending on the size, a photo hook can hold up to 100 lbs.

2. Treat each room as a single set

If you’re going to have multiple displays in a room, treat the whole collection of art for that room as a single set. For example, instead of having three  similar frames on one wall and two similar frames on another wall, mix the frames so that the two displays tie into each other. Also, maintain your color scheme between the various displays in a room.

3. Hang your photos at eye level

When you step back and look at a wall, as we tend to do when we’re hanging photos, there seems to be a lot of empty room towards the top of the wall. That space tempts us to hang our art too high on the wall. The vertical center of your frame should be at eye level, slightly lower if the room is meant for sitting, like a waiting room or living room.

4. Match the size to the space

Hanging a small photo on a big wall makes your print look tinier and your wall emptier. Instead, frame your small photos with a large mat to make them fit the space. The large frame will also serve to draw people’s eyes to the smaller, less noticeable photo.

5. Don’t forget the furniture

Your room functions as a single unit, so make sure you consider the other  features in the room when choosing your art arrangement. Maintain a color scheme and frame theme throughout the room. Coordinate the size and color of your photos to your nearby furniture.

6. Cap hallways and fill corners

Photography livens up your blank spaces. If you have a hallway that’s currently offering nothing more than a blank wall to stare at as you walk down it, consider capping the corridor with a photography arrangement. You  can also fill empty corners and brighten up a blank wall.

7. Support conservation efforts

Landscape and wildlife photography allows us to enjoy a piece of the exotic, natural world. Still, it can’t replace what’s out there. Every print sold on Captured RAW is printed using a carbon-neutral process and delivered in a recyclable or biodegradable package. Even better, 10% from each image goes directly towards wildlife habitat protection and environmental conservation efforts.
